POSITION OVERVIEW: Reports to the Chief Operations Officer. Full-time position located in the CIS of Michigan Lansing office. Responsible for implementation and monitoring of financial, accounting, insurance, and audit functions; advising Board of Directors and department heads on business functions and sustainability; ensuring functions follow organizational policies and GAAP. QUALIFICATIONS: Expert in accounting software (CIS uses Sage Intacct and Martus); 2+ years accounting experience (nonprofit preferred); experience with pass-through funding; BA in Accounting or Finance; strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency in Excel/financial reporting tools; relationship building; experience with single source and grant audits; bank reconciliations and processing transactions; journal entries; able to pass background and credit checks. RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee budgeting, general ledger and accounting systems; ensure GAAP/nonprofit compliance; process AP/AR; record donations/grants/other income; reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly; maintain GL entries; prepare/post journal entries; manage month-end close and reconciliations; prepare/analyze/submit financial reports to senior management, Finance Committee, and Board; work closely with Board and Finance Committee; monitor cash flow/liquidity; maintain internal controls; align school district contracts with budget/invoicing; collaborate with Development on grants/donations; coordinate with HR on payroll/tax/benefits; oversee grant accounting system; update financial policies; assess/mitigate financial risks; manage annual financial audit and related reports. WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to travel throughout Michigan; reliable transportation and valid driver’s license; consistent attendance—work from CIS headquarters at least three days/week; ability to sit/stand at computer; ability to meet deadlines. SALARY & BENEFITS: $60,000–$73,000; ability to work from home; $30/month cell reimbursement; employee health insurance 100% covered, access to dependent coverage (stipend for eligible opt-out); access to vision, dental, life; employer-paid short-term disability; access to long-term disability; 401k match up to 3.5%; mileage reimbursement at IRS rate; 3 weeks vacation, 10 holidays, week of July 4th off; earned sick time.
