POSITION OVERVIEW: Reports to the Chief Operations Officer. Full-time position located in the CIS of Michigan Lansing office. Responsible for implementation and monitoring of financial, accounting, insurance, and audit functions; advising the Board and department heads; ensuring functions are carried out legally and per GAAP.QUALIFICATIONS: Expert in accounting software (Sage Intacct, Martus); 2+ years accounting experience (nonprofit preferred); experience with pass-through funding; Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance; strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency in Excel and reporting tools; relationship-building skills; experience with single source and grant audits; bank reconciliations and processing transactions; journal entries; able to pass background and credit checks.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee budgeting, GL and accounting systems; process AP/AR; record donations, grants, and other income; reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly; maintain GL; prepare/post journal entries; manage month-end close and reconciliations; prepare/analyze/submit financial reports to senior management, Finance Committee, Board; provide insights/recommendations at board meetings; monitor cash flow and liquidity; maintain internal controls; ensure contracts accurately reflected in budget/invoicing; collaborate with Development to record grants/donations; coordinate with HR on payroll/tax/benefits; oversee grant accounting system; update financial policies/procedures; identify/mitigate financial risks; manage annual financial audit and related reports.WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to travel throughout Michigan; reliable transportation and valid driver’s license; consistent attendance—work from CIS HQ at least three days/week; ability to sit/stand at a computer; meet deadlines.SALARY AND BENEFITS: $60,000–$73,000; ability to work from home; $30/month cell phone reimbursement; employee health insurance 100% covered with access to dependent coverage and opt-out stipend (if eligible); access to vision, dental, life; employer-paid short-term disability and access to long-term disability; 401k match up to 3.5%; mileage reimbursement (IRS rate); 3 weeks vacation, 10 holidays, week of July 4th off; earned sick time allowance.Please submit a cover letter and resume to the Hiring Manager at mix@cismichigan.org.
