Full Time/SalariedPOSITION OVERVIEW: Reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a senior leader responsible for shaping and driving the organization’s overall fundraising strategy to support mission growth and long-term sustainability. The CDO oversees all philanthropic efforts, including major gifts, major donors, corporate partnerships, campaigns, and national fundraising initiatives, while building the systems and processes needed to scale state-wide impact. They lead a team of advancement officers and managers, fostering a culture of accountability, high performance, and meaningful donor engagement and relationship building. As a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, the CDO guides revenue strategy, expands the organization’s philanthropic reach, and ensures fundraising aligns with organizational priorities. The role also works closely with the Chief Strategy Officer as part of the Sustainability Team to strengthen infrastructure and support strategic organizational-wide growth.QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred• 8–10+ years of progressive fundraising experience, including major gifts and campaign leadership• 5+ years leading high-performing, multi-regional fundraising teams• Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts across individual, corporate, and foundation donors• Experience leading capital, comprehensive, and public-facing campaigns from strategy through execution• Proven ability to build scalable fundraising systems, structures, and processes that support organizational growth• Strong partnership with executive leadership and Board of Directors• High level of integrity and discretion in managing confidential donor relationships and information• Proficiency with donor CRM systems (e.g., Little Green Light)• Passion for mission-driven work, with flexibility to travel statewide and attend occasional evening/weekend eventsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESGeneral - Strategic Leadership & Supervision• Lead, coach, and manage a team of regional advancement officers and managers with diverse portfolios including in-kind and monetary donations as well as volunteer placement and support• Ensure consistency in donor engagement strategies and messaging organization-wide• Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, advising the CEO and Board on revenue strategy and philanthropic trends• Create reports for the CIS of Michigan board with statewide updates on fundraising and serves as primary contact for the Board Fundraising Committee, reporting to the full Board at least twice a year• Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with organizational growth goals• Serve as liaison for National’s affinity groups in fundraising• Establish and monitor KPIs and performance metrics (e.g., donor visits, solicitations, revenue) using data and reporting to drive decision-making and team accountabilityFund Development• Oversee development operations including CRM strategy, data integrity, and reporting• Collaborate cross-functionally with the Strategy Team to support and align efforts across state and federal grant strategy, statewide marketing campaigns, and local and foundation grant writing and prospecting• Ensure alignment between national strategy and regional execution• Identify risks and opportunities and adjust strategy accordingly• Serve as primary liaison to the Board and Board Fundraising Committee, providing regular updates, statewide reporting, and strategic insights on fundraising performance• Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Marketing/Communications, Program, and Strategy teams to align fundraising efforts, improve processes, ensure compliance, and connect donor engagement to mission impact• Develop and manage the development budget, including revenue and expense oversight, to meet annual financial goalsOperations, Infrastructure and Cross Function Collaboration• Oversee development operations including CRM strategy, data integrity, and reporting• Collaborate cross-functionally with the Strategy Team to support and align efforts across state and federal grant strategy, statewide marketing campaigns, and local and foundation grant writing and prospecting• Ensure alignment between national strategy and regional execution• Identify risks and opportunities and adjust strategy accordingly• Serve as primary liaison to the Board and Board Fundraising Committee, providing regular updates, statewide reporting, and strategic insights on fundraising performance• Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Marketing/Communications, Program, and Strategy teams to align fundraising efforts, improve processes, ensure compliance, and connect donor engagement to mission impact• Develop and manage the development budget, including revenue and expense oversight, to meet annual financial goalsWORKING CONDITIONS:• Primarily remote work environment with regular virtual collaboration• Required to work from the CISM home office or satellite offices at least twice a week• Statewide travel required to support partnerships, events, and CISM initiatives• Consistent and reliable attendance to effectively support organizational priorities.SALARY AND BENEFITS:• Mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate• Ability to work from home regularly• Employee cell phone reimbursement ($30/month)• Two health insurance plan options, including one fully employer-paid’ and access to employee paid insurance for dependants;
