Full Time/Salaried. POSITION OVERVIEW: Reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a senior leader responsible for shaping and driving the organization’s overall fundraising strategy to support mission growth and long-term sustainability. The CDO oversees all philanthropic efforts, including major gifts, major donors, corporate partnerships, campaigns, and national fundraising initiatives, while building the systems and processes needed to scale state-wide impact. They lead a team of advancement officers and managers, fostering a culture of accountability, high performance, and meaningful donor engagement and relationship building. As a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, the CDO guides revenue strategy, expands the organization’s philanthropic reach, and ensures fundraising aligns with organizational priorities. The role also works closely with the Chief Strategy Officer as part of the Sustainability Team to strengthen infrastructure and support strategic organizational-wide growth. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred. 8–10+ years of progressive fundraising experience, including major gifts and campaign leadership. 5+ years leading high-performing, multi-regional fundraising teams. Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure gifts across individual, corporate, and foundation donors. Experience leading capital, comprehensive, and public-facing campaigns from strategy through execution. Proven ability to build scalable fundraising systems, structures, and processes that support organizational growth. Strong partnership with executive leadership and Board of Directors. High level of integrity and discretion in managing confidential donor relationships and information. Proficiency with donor CRM systems (e.g., Little Green Light). Passion for mission-driven work, with flexibility to travel statewide and attend occasional evening/weekend events. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Strategic leadership and supervision; fund development; operations, infrastructure and cross function collaboration. WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily remote work environment with regular virtual collaboration; required to work from the CISM home office or satellite offices at least twice a week; statewide travel required; consistent and reliable attendance. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Mileage reimbursement at current IRS rate; ability to work from home regularly; employee cell phone reimbursement ($30/month); two health insurance plan options (one fully employer-paid) and access to employee paid insurance for dependents; HSA and FSA available; access to employee paid vision, dental and life insurance; employer paid short-term disability and access to employee paid long-term disability; 401k employer match up to 3.5%; 3 weeks’ vacation, 10 holidays, and the week of July 4th off; one sick day a month; Salary: $92,000 - $120,000.
