Communities In Schools of Central Texas (CISCT) is hiring a full-time Accountant – Accounts Receivable for our Central Office located in Austin, TX.

The Accountant - Accounts Receivable assists in the accounts payable process, support monthly and year-end financial close.

The Accountant works closely with the Senior Accountants and Chief Finance Officer (CFO) and will report directly to the CFO. Due to administrative requirements, this position is not eligible for the agency summer break.

This is an exciting time to join Communities In Schools. In Fall 2024, we will move into our new 30,000 sq ft headquarters, funded through contributions and New Market Tax Credits. And with our continued growth of services in the Central Texas MSA, we will also grow our Finance Team.

What we offer:

CIS offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position. The starting salary range for this position is $4,250/mo. Salaries are determined by qualifications and relevant experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and midpoint depending on experience and in alignment with internal equity.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance;
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience in a similar position is required.
  • Accounting experience in a non-profit setting is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles and practices
  • Analytical mind with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Critical thinker with high proficiency in math
  • Proficient with email and MS Office applications, especially Excel and Word
  • Experience with accounting software; experience with MIP Abila Fund Accounting systems software preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment
  • Detail-oriented, with good organizational skills
  • Self-motivated, with high initiative and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with firm deadlines

What you’ll do:

Accounts Receivable

  • Maintain all accounts receivable and properly code to grants or programs.

o Maintain and update funder files, including proposals, award letters, contract documentation, and funding records

o Draft correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections, identify delinquent accounts by reviewing files, and contacts delinquent account holders to request payment

o Reconciles accounts and researches discrepancies

o Identifies uncollectible accounts, prepares analysis and propose debt allowance

  • Enter and record revenue reports, in addition to bank transaction and verified pledges documentation.
  • Maintain general ledger and prepare adjusting entries as related to receivable and revenue accounts.

Contracts and Grants

  • Prepare and submit grant invoices and grant expenditure reports as scheduled.

o Reviews and reconcile employee time sheets to ensure compliance with approved grant budget

o Monitor, track and review grant expenditures for compliance with accounting standards, internal policies, grant guidelines and regulations through its grant year.

o Follow up as necessary to ensure accurate submission of data and to ensure that proper procedures are being followed.

  • Assist in site monitoring visit from the funder as requested.

Cash Management

  • Process and record deposit entries to cash log and general ledger
  • Assist in bank statement reconciliations

Budget, Financial Reporting, Audit

  • Assist CFO in the preparation of the annual budget
  • Assist CFO with the preparation of the interim monthly and annual financial statements
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, research discrepancies and report findings
  • Provide assistance and financial expertise on preparing grant budget for proposals, or as directed
  • Organize and file accounting data in compliance with audit and control procedures per retention schedules.
  • Assists with the financial audit by preparing and collecting materials for audit and processing any required adjustments.
  • Participate in the CIS team approach to problem-solving and service delivery
  • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the CFO and Sr. Accounts

Reporting structure:

This position is supervised by the Chief Executive Officer and supervises four accounting department staff members.
