Position Summary

The Mental Health Intern Coordinator will promote and lead a strategic, collaborative approach to implement CIS’ project for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) grant entitled “Enhancing School Capacity to Address Youth Violence” at San Marcos High School (SMHS) and Rebound Disciplinary Alternative Education Program. Through this grant project, CIS will implement a multi-pronged strategy to provide the SMHS and Rebound communities with intensive, layered supports to meet the individualized needs of at-risk students through case management activities; lead the SMHS school community in the development of a school safety strategic plan that will guide resource identification and utilization; and coordinate and cultivate new and enhanced partnerships with community partners to help meet the needs of the campus communities.

The Mental Health Intern Coordinator (“Coordinator”) will collaborate with CIS staff, campus staff, and community partner staff to implement project activities and lead the facilitation of the development of the school safety strategic plan. The Coordinator will utilize annual needs assessment data to identify and cultivate resources and partnerships in support of the project and strategic plan. The Coordinator will also provide clinical oversight to a small unit of master’s level social work interns who will be responsive to campus needs and serve SMCISD campuses and be responsible for administrative reporting and compliance activities associated with supervision of interns and fiscal and programmatic grant compliance.

This position is funded through a grant-funded project to August 2026, with the possibility of a funding extension.

What You’ll Do

Serve as OJJDP grant project director, which includes completion of programmatic reporting, budget monitoring, and other compliance activities and attending the annual OJJDP Project Directors’ Meeting in Washington, DC
Engage campus staff, students, families, and community partners in annual school safety strategic planning activities
Facilitate annual partnership mapping assessment to evaluate the effectiveness and capacity of resources to meet needs identified in school safety strategic plan and campus needs assessment
Collaborate with campus leadership to incorporate service and engagement strategies into the Campus Improvement Plan
Collaborate with CIS Strategic Partnerships Dept. to identify and cultivate partnerships supportive of school safety efforts
With other CIS staff and campus staff, develop family engagement opportunities and offer staff professional learning opportunities that are responsive to identified needs
Supervise small unit of master’s level social work interns, including orienting interns to assignments, providing direct supervision to interns, performing observations and giving feedback on interns’ performance, completing interns’ evaluations, and communicate with university(ies) as needed.
Prepare and submit regular and timely reports as required
Maintain a positive relationship with CIS staff, campus personnel, and partner organizations.
Participate in the CIS approach to service delivery and problem-solving
Promote and maintain CIS values, culture, standards and systems
Perform other activities and duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university
Current active, unrestricted LMSW, LCSW, or LCSW-S license in Texas
Minimum of two years post-graduate experience in a social work setting with the ability to supervise MSW interns
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in program management, service delivery to children, adolescents and families; experience delivering social services within a school setting preferred
Thorough understanding of how programs and services can meet a range of social, emotional, physical, and academic needs as well as knowledge of state, local, and federal laws impacting the lives of students and families
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive and productive relationships to effectively collaborate with CIS staff, school personnel, and community and government partners
Demonstrated cultural competence when engaging audiences, including students and families, team members, school personnel, volunteers, and community partners
Strong group facilitation skills and organization skills
Highly self-motivated and able to work both autonomously and collaboratively
Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities in a dynamic environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated English/Spanish speaking ability is highly preferred
