Position Summary

The Community Outreach & Youth Enrichment Specialist is responsible for identifying agency-wide volunteer needs; recruiting, orienting and training volunteers; making appropriate site placements; supporting staff to utilize volunteers; maintaining the volunteer database; evaluating the volunteer program; and coordinating volunteer appreciation efforts to support CIS programs and further the organization’s mission. This position frequently represents CIS of Central Texas in the community and serves as the primary contact for volunteer activities, including individuals, corporate and service groups, interns, and special events.

The Specialist is also responsible for summer programming, assisting with the design, coordination, and implementation of special events for students and families, incentive field trips, and youth development programs. In addition, this position will be responsible for developing and leading staff trainings related to youth enrichment topics and activities.

This is a full-time, in-person position based at Communities In Schools of Central Texas’ St. Elmo office with frequent travel within the Central Texas 5-county region. The Specialist will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

What You’ll Do

Community Outreach & Volunteer Engagement

  • Collaborate with Program Support Services staff, campus teams, community partners, and volunteers to identify volunteer needs and opportunities that support student success and organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement effective volunteer recruitment, onboarding, screening, placement, and retention strategies.
  • Coordinate volunteer processing activities including applications, background checks, campus clearances, orientation, and placement.
  • Manage volunteer databases and maintain accurate records of volunteer participation, hours, training completion, and engagement outcomes.
  • Support the development, implementation, and expansion of volunteer programs, including Reading Buddies, Math Buddies, mentoring initiatives, university service-learning
  • partnerships, and corporate volunteer opportunities.
  • Coordinate and represent CIS at volunteer fairs, community outreach events, and recruitment opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for volunteer inquiries and support campus staff in effectively utilizing volunteers.
  • Assist with the creation, coordination, and implementation of volunteer trainings, onboarding materials, and resource guides.
  • Regularly evaluate volunteer engagement efforts through surveys, feedback sessions, and data analysis to assess program impact and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare reports documenting volunteer engagement outcomes, participation trends, and program effectiveness.
  • Assist with volunteer recognition initiatives, appreciation events, and retention strategies.
  • Serve as an ambassador for CIS and promote volunteer opportunities throughout the community

Youth Enrichment Services

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement youth enrichment activities, family engagement events, incentive programs, field trips, and out-of-school-time programming in collaboration with the Director.
  • Coordinate and support Back-to-School events and other agency-wide student and family engagement initiatives.
  • Host internal and external stakeholder input sessions to gather feedback, assess program effectiveness, and inform future youth enrichment programming.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate youth enrichment activities that support academic achievement, social-emotional learning, career exploration, and positive youth development.
  • Manage the Youth Enrichment Lending Library, supply inventory, activity kits, and distribution systems.
  • Create and manage summer programming materials, activity resources, and supply kits.
  • Coordinate reservations, vendors, contracts, transportation logistics, and event details for youth enrichment activities and field trips.
  • Collect and analyze participant feedback, survey data, and student outcome measures to evaluate the extent, nature, and value of youth enrichment programs.
  • Develop recommendations for program improvements based on data, stakeholder feedback, and emerging best practices.

General Responsibilities

  • Develop and facilitate volunteer and youth enrichment trainings in collaboration with the Director.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, standards, operating procedures (SOPs), and program resources related to volunteer engagement and youth enrichment.
  • Design and create marketing, outreach, recruitment, and promotional materials in collaboration with the Director and Communications team.
  • Support the planning and execution of volunteer recruitment campaigns, Reading Buddies expansion efforts, volunteer fairs, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with soliciting sponsorships, community partnerships, and in-kind support for programs, events, and activities.
  • Monitor and analyze program participation, survey results, and outcome data to support continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Participate in cross-departmental planning, collaboration, and problem-solving efforts.
  • Promote and maintain agency culture, standards, and systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Volunteer Engagement & Youth Enrichment Programs and the Sr. Director of Community Engagement & Strategic Partnerships.

What You Bring

  • 2+ years’ experience developing, managing, and training volunteers in a professional or volunteer capacity is required; experience in a school setting or on multiple sites is highly preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience developing and leading experiential, enriching youth programs
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating the design and creation of materials to market/promote programs and events
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and facilitating events for small and large groups of students and families
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-collaborative work groups for multiple teams, contractors, and vendors
  • Demonstrated experience creating and facilitating training programs for staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated experience in executing projects effectively with little direction
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in social work, education, or human services field
  • Access to reliable transportation is necessary
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of supervising, training, and managing volunteers
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of developing, designing, coordinating, and evaluating recreational out-of-school time and/or summer programs, activities, and events
  • Strong project management, time management, and organizational skills to effectively supervise projects to completion
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be personable yet persuasive
  • Ability to collaborate with executives, operations teams, creative teams, program development teams, and community partners
  • Strong skills and demonstrated ability to track and assess data from different audiences to guide program design and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently on complex initiatives
